Selfie craze: Two youths drown in Kenchanakere Lake

Hunsur: Two college students were reportedly drowned after they slipped and fell into Kenchanakere Lake while clicking selfies at Hosakote in the taluk yesterday.

The deceased youths are Mohammed Abdul Shariff (21), son of former Hunsur Town Municipal Council Member Mohidulla Shariff and Tanveer Baig (21), son of Riyaz Baig, a scrap dealer and a resident of Narasimhaswamy Layout in the town. Abdul and Tanveer were students of Jnanadhara First Grade College in the town and were pursing their second year B.Com course.

Yesterday being a holiday for the college, Abdul and Tanveer, along with their friend Zuber, left for Kenchanakere Lake on their bike in the morning. After clicking enough selfies and making videos, Abdul and Tanveer ventured very close to the Lake and where again clicking selfies by standing on the Lake bund, when they slipped and fell into it.

It is learnt that the duo did not know to swim and were drowned. Meanwhile, Zuber, who saw his friends drowning, informed about the incident to the family members, who in turn informed the Police.

The Police, who rushed to the spot, informed Hunsur and K.R. Nagar Fire Brigade personnel, who arrived at the spot and fished out the bodies.

A case has been registered at Hunsur Rural Police Station.
