‘The Scholar made great efforts to correct wrong interpretation of Indian literature by western countries’
Mysore/Mysuru: Littérateur Dr. T.V. Venkatachala Sastry said that Scholar Dr. K.S. Narayanacharya spent most of his energy on condemning and correcting wrong interpretations of Indian literature by western countries.
He was speaking after presiding over a seminar on Dr. K.S. Narayanacharya’s works (Swadhyaya Pravachana) organised under the aegis of Sanatana Sabha at RamaGovinda Rangamandira in Ramakrishnanagar here recently.
Pointing out that Dr. Narayanacharya’s thoughts, works and interpretations were all based on vedic culture, Dr. Sastry said that the great scholar propagated that Indian culture is a most resourceful and valuable one.
“Dr. Narayanacharya was totally committed to research, discourse, writing, lecture and the like throughout his life. Though he was a key literary figure, it is disappointing to note that the scholar was more identified with mythology only,” he said.
Recalling his association with Dr. Narayanacharya, he said that both of them were from Kanakapura and were friends right from childhood, studying in the same Government School. Highlighting the cultural matters which the works and discourses of Dr. Narayanacharya are centred around, Dr. Sastry said that every work of the Acharya was resourceful.
Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, who graced the occasion, said that Dr. Narayanacharya who was an English Professor, is one of the very few scholars who mastered our ancient culture and traditions. Pointing out that Dr. Narayanacharya was an authoritative figure on mythology and other ancient works, the Seer said that the scholar was well-versed in Ancient History and English literature too, which enabled him to give a new dimension and a fresh insight in respect of spiritual and philosophical matters.
Senior Advocate O. Sham Bhat said that Dr. Narayanacharya took on those who were out to shatter the rich Indian culture and heritage.
Noting that the scholar strived hard for imparting spiritualism and religious devotion among our population through his works, he explained how the great scholar took on the likes of M.N. Roy, whose return from China resulted in the springing up of disruptive forces in the country.
Earlier, Industrialist Dr. M. Jagannath Shenoy, who spoke after inaugurating the programme, said that Dr. Narayanacharya made an in-depth study and evaluation of everything before he could pen a book or deliver discourse on the matter. Noting that his discourses were popular, he said that his demise was a great loss to the spiritual and literary world.
Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa Sahitya Pratishtana Secretary Dr. G.L. Shekar, Sanatana Sabha President N.S. Dwarakanath, Vice-President Prof. S. Ramprasad, Secretary Vid. G.N. Bhatta and others were present.
