Mysore/Mysuru: Chamaraja MLA L. Nagendra inaugurated Senior Citizens Day at Saraswathi Samudaya Bhavan of Elder Citizens Council in Jayalakshmipuram recently.
Speaking on the occasion, he was full of praise to the seniors and urged people to respect the elder members of their family and society as they are the experienced and knowledgeable persons to be looked after.
Citing his mother’s advice to him when he was young to give respect to elders, he volunteered to redress the grievances of senior citizens, if any and contact him either in person or over phone as per their convenience.
Chief guest Dr. Padma Shekar, former Vice-Chancellor of Sanskrit University, Bengaluru, lauded the Elder Citizens Council for celebrating Senior Citizens Day and honouring some of the seniors among them.
Condoling the untimely death of Puneeth Rajkumar, she paid rich tributes to him for his service to society in various forms.
On the occasion, Amshi Prasanna Kumar, Senior journalist and Dr. C. Naganna, retired English Professor from Mysore University, were felicitated in appreciation of their works in Kannada and English.
A minute’s silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed film star Puneeth Rajkumar and Vasudeva, a senior member of the Council.
Council President Krishnappa Gouda presided. Secretary K.V. Ramanath and Made Gowda, member, introduced the guests. Gowdappa, Chairman, Viswastha Mandali Trust, welcomed and explained the various activities of the Elder Citizens Council. Venkateshaiah, Committee Member, proposed vote of thanks.
The Council members present included Suseela Mari Gowda, Vice-President, Dr. H.M. Nagaraju, Sridhar Raj Urs, V.N. Achar, P.B. Ramanna, Latha, Nagesh, Nanje Gowda and Dr. Ramachandre Gowda.
