Gold, cash worth lakhs of rupees looted from houses, shops

Mysuru: Serial thefts and house burglary have taken place in and around the city in three to four days. While houses were burgled in Vijayanagar and Yelwal Police limits, thefts have taken place in shops coming under Jayapura and Yelwal Police limits with burglars decamping with gold ornaments and cash worth lakhs of rupees.

Vijayanagar Police limits

Burglars have decamped with Rs. 5.30 lakh cash and 41 grams gold ornaments worth Rs. 3.28 lakh from the house of one T.S. Ravi, located at Shivanagar in Koorgalli. Ravi, who runs a gobi manchurian stall at Sanjeevini Circle on Hebbal Main Road, had gone to his native place Tippanakoppal in Holenarasipur along with his wife and children to take part in the village festival on May 23. On May 24, his relative Mahesh, who is also his assistant, went to Tippanakoppal and gave Ravi the house keys.

On May 25, when Ravi and his family members returned, they found lock of the front door broken and on inspecting the house, they found the gold ornaments and cash kept in the cupboard stolen and lodged a complaint.

Yelwal Police limits

Burglars, who broke into the house of one Sanjay Kumar on Aloka Road in Yelwal, have decamped with a gold bracelet worth Rs. 61,000 and a wristwatch worth Rs. 8,000.On May 19, Sanjay, along with his wife and children, had gone to Parasanahalli village in Hassan. When they returned on May 25, they found the iron and wooden door open and on entering the house they found the clothes kept in the almirah scattered on the floor. They also found the gold bracelet and the wristwatch kept in the locker stolen and lodged a complaint.

Shops burgled

Two shops located at Beerihundi village and Beerihundi Circle in the taluk have been burgled on the same day. Harsha, who owns a mobile phone shop at Beerihundi Circle on Mysuru- Gaddige Road, closed his shop at about 9 pm on May 23 and left for his home.

When he came the next day at about 7.30 am to open the shop, he found the rolling shutter of the shop forcibly opened. On inspecting the shop, he found the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) of the CCTV camera and Rs. 3,000 cash stolen and lodged a complaint at Yelwal Police Station.

Jayapura Police limits

On the same day, a medical store on Jayapura Road in Beerihundi village has been burgled.

Ramesh, a resident of Dharmapura in Bilikere hobli, who runs the medical store, closed the store at about 9.30 pm on May 23 and left for his home. The theft came to light when he returned the next day at about 8.30 am to open the store. Thieves, who entered the medical store by forcibly opening the rolling shutter, cut the DVR wire of the CCTV camera and have decamped with Rs. 18,000 cash.

The thieves have also tried to open the rolling shutters of the adjacent provision stores owned by one Mahadevaswamy but had to return as they could not open it. A case has been registered at Jayapura Police Station.
