Mysuru: Urging for fulfilment of demands, various organisations staged protests in city yesterday.
Footpath clearance drive opposed
The members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike( KRV) staged a protest outside the Office of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), condemning the civic authority’s footpath clearance drive on Shivaji Road in N.R. Mohalla and forcefully removing shops on roadsides without giving prior intimation and making alternate arrangements.
They alleged that the livelihood of the footpath vendors has been affected by the MCC’s sudden drive. KRV District Unit President Praveen Kumar, activists Hemanth, Lokesh, Sunand, Rafeeq, Aslam, Afroz, Madhu and others were present.
Distribute Compensation
In another protest, villagers of Kothavalli in Periyapatna taluk staged a demonstration under the banner of Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association, near DC’s office condemning the delay in the distribution of compensation for the land losers whose lands were acquired by the Irrigation Department for Karadilakkanakere Lift Irrigation Project.
They alleged that the land of 80 farmers were acquired in 2008, but the authorities had not distributed the compensation even after 11 years.
State Sugarcane Growers Association President Kurubur Shanthakumar urged the authorities concerned to distribute compensation amount within 15 days.
DC Abhiram. G. Sankar, who met the protestors, received the memorandum and assured them of getting the compensation released. Farmer leaders Attahalli Devaraj, R. Krishnegowda, Lakshmangowda, Shivalingappa, K.R. Ravindra, Manjunath, Baradanapura Nagaraj, land-losers Suresh, Shivaprasad, Eshwarappa, Shivannegowda, Syed Ahmed, Krishmachari and others were present.
Cancel liquor shop license
Urging the authorities to cancel the license of a liquor shop at Hunasalu village in Nanjangud taluk, villagers and members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha staged a protest near the DC’s Office. They shouted slogans against the Excise Department for issuing licence to open liquor shop at the village despite stiff opposition from the villagers. Raitha Sangha President Badagalapura Nagendra, Ashwathnarayan Raje Urs,Lokesh Raje Urs, District President Hosur Kumar, General Secretary Hosakote Basavaraju and Nanjangud Taluk Unit President Nanjundaswamy were present.
