Mysore/Mysuru: Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Sharanappa V. Halse said that the service of Nurses is as important as that of Doctors. While Doctors examine patients and provide treatment, Nurses win the heart of patients through nursing care that play a key role in recovery, he noted.
He was speaking after inaugurating International Nurses Day celebrations at Suyog Hospital in Ramakrishnanagar here recently commemorating the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
Pointing out that there is a shortage of Nurses globally, Prof. Halse said that students should take up nursing as a profession. Maintaining that there is a great demand for Indian Nurses because of their humanity and professional service, he called upon the Nurses to serve the society much better in their own way.
Former KSOU VC Dr. N.S. Ramegowda, who too spoke, said Suyog Nursing College, apart from academics, will also educate the students on professional ethics and human values.
Suyog Hospital Chairman Dr. S.P. Yoganna said that Nurses serving in hospitals of the country are receiving less salary than what they are due. As such, it is time for hospital managements to think of revising their wages, he observed.
Nurse Abhishek was conferred with ‘Florence Nightingale Award’ on the occasion.
Suyog Group CEO Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Vice-President Dr. Seema Yoganna, Suyog Nursing College Principal Nagamani, General Manager P.J. Arun Kumar and others were present.
