Mysuru: Ahead of Dasara cultural events, Mysureans can also treat themselves with a week-long yakshagana event at Sri Krishnadhama in Saraswathipuram here.
The show, aptly titled ‘Sri Krishna Leelotsava’ organised by Bellipadi Yaksha Samskruthika Trust, was inaugurated by Yakshagana scholar G.S. Bhatta last evening with Sri Mahaganapathi Yakshagana Mandali of Nidle presenting episodes from ‘Sri Krishna Janma Shakatasura Vadhe.’
The artistes excellently portrayed the decision of Srihari to take up the eighth incarnation of Krishna born to Devaki and Vasudeva and the tactics of Kamsa to eliminate child Krishna.
Addressing the gathering, Trust President Dr. Bellipadi Satish Rai expressed his dedication to the art and concern for the trials and tribulations of yakshagana artistes as they have to perform all night on stage and move to another place the next morning to perform again. He appealed the public to extend co-operation to the artistes and encourage this unique art.
Writer Dr. Malali Vasanthakumar and others were present on the occasion.
Today’s show at 6 pm features ‘Kalingamardhana- Kamsavadhe.’
