Madikeri: Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Charulatha Somal has clarified that people of the district will be allowed to shop for essential commodities only twice a week (Monday and Friday) as per Government guidelines.
Pointing out that though the Government while announcing a 14-day Statewide COVID induced lockdown from May 10 to 24 in order to control the spread of the virus has modified certain guidelines, she said that the tight guidelines in place earlier in the district will continue.
Noting that though the Government has allowed buying of essentials on all days from 6 am to 10 am elsewhere in the State, the DC said that, however in Kodagu, buying of essentials is allowed from 6 am to 12 noon only on Mondays and Fridays.
Stating that delivery of milk and newspaper distribution will be allowed between 6 am and 10 am on all days of the week, she asked the members of the public to follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour during shopping on both the days.
She also advised the public to buy their essentials at nearby shops and not to use vehicles for purchases.
Since no vehicles were allowed to ply on the roads, people were seen carrying goods and other essential commodities on their shoulders and walking barefoot to reach their homes.
