Sign boards in front of temples: A commendable decision

Sir,

The decision of the Mysuru district administration to display sign boards in front of temples stating that they are open to all irrespective of race, religion, gender, etc., is commendable [SOM dated May 4]. Paeans of praises should be showered on the district administration for this decision.

However, we have to appreciate that India is supposed to be a secular State and, therefore, we have to show equal concern for all religions and not merely one religion.

Keeping this in mind “open to all” sign boards should be displayed in front of places of worship of all religions, which should clearly state that the place of worship is open to all irrespective of caste, community, sex, sect or denomination. If this is done it would become a model worthy of emulation by all the districts in the country. The decision will also be welcomed by all those who believe in true secularism.
