Mysore/Mysuru: In the wake of model code of conduct for the Assembly polls, the Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha, Basava Balagagala Okkoota and other Veerashaiva-Lingayat associations and organisations have decided to celebrate Basava Jayanti in a simple and symbolic manner tomorrow (Apr. 23) in the city.
Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, Basava Balagagala Okkoota President T. Lingaraju said Basava Jayanti will be celebrated in a simple manner by garlanding the statue of Basaveshwara at Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamiji Circle (Gun House Circle) at 9.30 am tomorrow.
Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji and other Seers will grace the occasion. Officials of the District Administration will attend the event, he said adding that floral tributes will be offered to the statue of Basaveshwara.
Lingaraju further said it has been planned to celebrate Basava Jayanti in a meaningful manner on Aug. 26 and 27 at Kalamandira on Hunsur road under the leadership of Suttur Seer.
Community leaders Suresh, Doora Shivakumar, Byatahalli Nagaraju, Srikantamurthy and others were present at the press meet.
