Sindhu, Praneeth crash out of Denmark Open

Reigning world champion P.V. Sindhu crashed out of the Denmark Open after losing to Korea’s An Se-young in the 2nd round, here at Odense Sports Park yesterday.

Fifth seeded, Sindhu lost 14-21, 17-21 in a one-sided clash against the unseeded Korean player. This is the 3rd time that Sindhu has failed to make it to the quarter-finals of the BWF World Tour after winning the World Championship in August.

Sindhu had lost to Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong in the second round at China Open after which she was ousted by Beiwen Zhang in the first round of Korea Open.

Meanwhile in men’s singles pre-quarterfinals, Sai Praneeth also made 2nd round exit after suffering 6-21, 14-21 to World No. 1 Kento Momota of Japan.

Earlier in the day, Sameer Verma was knocked out of the Denmark Open after losing 12-21, 10-21, to reigning Olympic champion Chen Long in men’s singles 2nd round.

In mixed doubles, India’s men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down 16-21, 15-21 to Chinese pair of Han Cheng Kai and Zhou Hao Dong in just 31 minutes.

On Wednesday, Saina Nehwal and Srikanth Kidambi was also knocked out after losing their respective matches.
