‘Sitar Madhurya’ mass recital and book release on May 31

Mysuru: ‘Sitar Madhurya,’ a Mass Sitar Recital and ‘Raag Chikitsa’ book release programmes have been organised by Kala Samvahana Trust at RamaGovinda Rangamandira in Ramakrishnanagar on May 31 at 5.30 pm.

Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji will grace the occasion. Vidu. Sangeetha Katti Kulkarni, Excise Joint Commissioner Basavaraj Hadapad, BBMP Divisional Commissioner Dr. B.C. Sathish, writer-sitarist Ustad Dr. Mohsin Khan will be the chief guests. Trust President Rajeshwari Vastrad will preside.

On the occasion, Dr. Mohsin Khan and his disciples will give a Mass Sitar Recital programme. Ustad Nisar Ahmed, Pt. Chinmay Namannavar and Charudutt Maharaj will accompany.

Also, Vidu. Sangeetha Katti Kulkarni will give a vocal concert. She will be accompanied by Sridhar Mandre on tabla and Sathish Kolli on harmonium.

Ustad Dr. Mohsin Khan is the great grandson of ‘Sitar Ratna’ Ustad Rahimat Khan who performed in the court of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in 1911, started to learn Sitar when he was a 5-year-old from his grandfather Prof. Abdul Karim Khan. Then he continued to learn under his father Ustad Hameed Khan. He has given concerts not only across India, but also in Europe, Japan, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Nepal and Russia.

The unique Sitar heritage in Karnataka, which began with Ustad Rahimat Khan’s arrival in Mysuru in 1911, travelled to many foreign countries through his successors. Now the seventh generation of the same Gharana, Dr. Mohsin Khan is back here, launching a Sitar class in Mysuru [Contact Mob: 97388-38940].
