Six theatres in city start screening of films

Mysuru: After the Government last week announced that it would allow cinema theatres to screen films at their hundred percent seating capacity, six Cinema theatres in city have started screening of films, starting from Oct. 1.

The six theatres where films are being screened are — Gayathri, Rajkamal, Woodlands, Lido, Padma and Thibbadevi, while two other popular Cinema Halls — Sangam and Prabha — in the heart of the city are yet to start screening films.

Karnataka Film Exhibitors Association Vice-President Rajaram told Star of Mysore that there were a total of 21 cinema theatres in the city until a few years ago. But  due to decreasing patronisation coupled with the outbreak of COVID pandemic last year and increased operating costs, 13 of the 21 theatres shut down and only eight have remained now.

Out of the existing eight theatres, six have started to screen films to full seating capacity starting from Oct. 1, while two others (Sangam and Prabha) have not yet, Rajaram added.
