Mandya: Mandya Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Ashwini has asked the staff members to behave courteously with citizens in public places.
This warning came in the wake of a lady Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Savitha Gowda, allegedly slapping a girl for riding a two-wheeler without helmet on Mar 7. She has also asked Deputy Superintendent of Police to submit a report on the slapping incident. The District Cops must behave nicely with the citizens. Even the public must co-operate with the Department to maintain law and order, she added.
Last Sunday, Lady SI Savitha Gowda was checking vehicles at Dr. Besagarahalli Ramanna Circle, where she stopped a girl who was riding a two-wheeler sans helmet. Upon questioning, the duo entered into a wordy duel and both abused each other in public. Agitated over the girl’s behaviour, the SI reportedly slapped the girl. This video clip went viral in the social media and the citizens vented out their ire against the Department.
The girl claimed that she abused the lady SI in foul language as she slapped her in front of public. In fact, she had the vehicle documents but was not wearing the helmet. Though she offered to pay penalty from Google Pay, the SI slapped her in full public view. This made her to use foul language against the lady SI, she added.
