Book on ‘Professional journalism’ distributed
Mysuru: Observing that social media is losing its credibility, columnist A. Narayan said that the media is facing challenges from digital technology.
He was speaking at a seminar on ‘Media and Contemporary Challenges’ organised jointly by Samajavadi Adhyayana Kendra, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre and Samaana Asakta Geleyara Balaga in memory of late activist Prof. K. Ramdas at Dr. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre in Manasagangothri here on Friday.
Noting that almost all parties, religions and sects have a perception that the media is against them, Narayan maintained that the media is controlled by the State.
Stressing on the need for finding a new route for revenue generation through public funding, he said that the media was facing one challenge or the other and it was high time that the media worked fully independently without intervention.
Writer Prof. Kalegowda Nagavara, who presided, said that Prof. K. Ramdas associated himself with socialist movements at an young age. Stating that Prof. Ramdas lectured like an expert in his student days itself, he said that the late social activist always remained in the minds of the people.
Earlier, writer and Akashvani Programme Executive Abdul Rashid distributed a book on ‘Professional journalism’ to scribes. Senior journalist Hrushikesh Bahadur Desai, city journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre Director Dr. S. Narendra Kumar and others were present.
