South Zone Inter-University Men’s Tournament: Gowtham’s performance leads Mysore Varsity to final

Inspiring all-round performance by Gowtham Sagar (four for 27 & 59 n.o.) and good batting by Kishan S. Bedare (29 n.o.), enabled University of Mysore to register a facile seven wicket win over Hindustan IT & S, Chennai and enter the final in the South-Zone Inter-University Men’s Cricket Tournament played at Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering (JNNCE) in Shivamogga yesterday.

Batting first, Hindustani IT & S, Chennai, were bowled out for 113 in 33.4 overs by University of Mysore’s bowlers. Gowtham Sagar (four for 27) was the most successful bowler and he was ably supported by medium-pacers K. Shashank (2 for 13) and B.S. Yodhan Hrudhay (2 for 22).

In reply, University of Mysore, after losing both their openers Dheemanth and S.J. Nikin Jose early (2-6), recovered through a 39-run partnership between Vishnu Priyan (22, 3×4) and Gowtham Sagar before the former departed. Later, the innings was steadied by a valuable unfinished 71-run fourth wicket partnership between Gowtham Sagar (59 n.o., 82b, 9×4) and Kishan S. Bedare (29 n.o., 33b, 5×4) which saw them through. D. Rahul was the most successful bowler for Hindustani IT & S, Chennai, taking two for 21.

In the other semi-final, Jain University, Bengaluru, scored a 20-run win over JNTU, Hyderabad, to enter the final and set up a title clash with University of Mysore.
