The Department of Physical Education (DPE), University of Mysore (UoM), will be conducting the South Zone Inter-University Cricket Tournament for Men from Nov.28 to Dec.10 at Mysuru. The event will be inaugurated at University Sports Pavilion premises today (Nov.27) at 4 pm by Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, UoM. Santhosh Menon, Hon. Secretary, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), will be the chief guest. Prof. R. Shivappa, Registrar, UoM, will preside over the inaugural.
A total of 107 University teams from South Zone will be taking part in the Tournament which will be played on knock-out basis. The matches will be played at the University Sports Pavilion Ground, Coffee Board Ground, SDNR Wadiyar Grounds (Gangothri Glades) in Manasagangothri, SJCE Cricket Ground, JSS Medical College Cricket Ground, Vidya Vikas Institutions Cricket Ground and Village Hostel Ground in Manasagangothri here.
UoM Health Centre personnel will provide medical assistance during the Tournament whenever necessary.
Jain University, Bengaluru, the Defending Champion and UoM, Mysuru – the runners-up, Hindustan University, Chennai – the 3rd place winner and JNTU, Hyderabad – the 4th place winner during 2018-19, have been directly seeded into the quarter-finals.
Accommodation for cricketers is arranged at the DPE, Sports Pavilion, Yuvaraja’s College, Mysuru and Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru. For the team Managers and Coaches, the accommodation has been arranged at Youth Hostel, Mysuru and University Guest House, Manasagangothri.
The men’s cricket teams of UoM which have secured second place in All India Inter-University Competitions during the years 2005-06 and 2018-19 and also secured bronze medal in the year 2004-05 will be felicitated during the inaugural ceremony.
Cycle Pure Agarbathies, Mysuru, will be presenting ‘Gift Hampers’ to all the Managers and Coaches of participating teams. About 50 technical officials and 120 supporting officials will be present to conduct the tournament smoothly. An official from Delhi has been deputed by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to this Tournament as an independent observer.
The valedictory will be held at SDNR Wadiyar Grounds in Manasagangothri, Mysuru, on Dec.10 at 4.30 pm.
