Book ‘Maha Prayaana’ released
Mysuru: “By drawing emotion towards intellectual stage, the span of theatre and literary sector gets widened,” opined Prof. H.S. Umesh, retired Principal, Sarada Vilas B.Ed College.
He was speaking at a programme organised by Mahima Prakashana at Vishwamaithri Buddha Vihar near Ashoka Circle in Krishnamurthypuram here on Sunday for the release of the book ‘Maha Prayaana,’ a Kannada translation by Dr. G. Chandrashekar.
Prof. Umesh recalled that six months ago at a convention of writers, a question arose whether a play could be written based on Science when theatre sector is literally monopolised with themes from history and mythology not excluding social themes.
He appreciated young playwrights in incorporating Science in plays. He commended Dr. Chandrashekar in excellently translating the original Hindi version by Dr. Rajendra Mohan Bhatnagar.
Former Rangayana Director Dr. B.V. Rajaram said that evolving ‘Maha Prayaana’ dating back to 40 or 50 years and conveying thoughts of Buddha is a commendable job which when enacted as a play would really be thought-provoking. He further said that people discuss on Siddhartha (Buddha) deserting his wife and young child but should rather focus on Siddhartha going for penance and achieving great heights in spiritualism, evolving as Buddha.
The book was released by Kalyanasiri Bantheja. Writer Dr. Chandrashekar, Publisher K.V. Srinivas, former Mayor Purushotham and others were present.
