Mysore/Mysuru: Adding one more Study Chair to its belt, the University of Mysore (UoM) will be establishing renowned singer late S.P. Balasubrahmanyam (SPB) Study Chair in April. The multi-lingual acclaimed singer and actor passed away in September last at Chennai.
UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar said that the University Syndicate and Academic Councils have approved Dr. S.P. Balasubrahmanyam Study Chair, following which rules have been framed for the establishment of the Chair.
He pointed out that the University has written to the Government seeking permission for setting up the Chair.
Maintaining that Rs. 5 lakh has been earmarked for carrying out studies on the achievements of Dr. SPB, Prof. Hemantha Kumar said that the Study Chair has been proposed to be set up at the University Fine Arts college.
Initially, the Rs. 5 lakh fund will be utilised for appointment of researchers and a visiting faculty for a three-year period, he said and clarified that the Chair will become a regular one only if the Government sets up a Rs. 2 crore corpus fund. As of now, the Chair will be established in April and will function from University Fine Arts College, he added.
