Mysuru: JSS Urban Haat has organised a ten-day National-level Craft Exhibition and ‘Kala Viabhava’ and 14-day ‘Special Handloom Expo’ all together, for the first time in its ten-year history.
Mayor B. Bhagyavathi inaugurated the expo organised by the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textile, Commissioner for Textile Development and Director of Handloom and Textile, Department of Handloom and Textile, Karnataka and Karnataka State Co-operative Handloom Weavers Federation (Cauvery Handlooms), here on Mar.23.
JSS Mahavidyapeetha Audit and Accounts Department Director K.R. Santhanam, Karnataka State Co-operative Handloom Weavers Federation President N. Virupakshappa, Cauvery Handlooms Managing Director S. Muddaiah, District Industries and Commerce Joint Director H. Ramakrishnegowda, Textiles and Handloom Southern Division Joint Director A. Sureshkumar, Shashidhar, Vijay Kumar and others were present.
World of Handicrafts: Artisans from many districts in Karnataka and from across the country including Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and other are participating in this special handicrafts mela.
Kashidakari embroidery dresses and jewellery, Dogra art, Tussar silk sarees, Kolhapur chappals, clay artefacts for home decoration, flower pots of various coloured hues, soft-textures shawls, Mythali art works, Tribal ornaments, Hyderabad pearl necklaces, print dress materials, traditional dolls, wooden carvings, Channapatna toys, varieties of dresses, bed-sheets and many other eye-catching articles and artefacts are on display.
Free entry: The entry to the National-level ‘Special Handloom Expo’ in JSS Urban Haat located in Hebbal Industrial area on Ring Road is free.
The expo will be open between 10 am and 9 pm till Apr.5.
Many items on display are available on discounted rates. City Bus No.117 will be plying on the Urban Haat route.
