Prevention is better than cure, so goes the adage. Presently, we are neither fully preventing COVID-19 nor totally curing all the affected people. The main issue here is fund crunch and politics, as usual. The vaccine’s efficacy being 85%, the authorities must go with full speed to get everyone vaccinated, post-haste. It should cover the youngest one to the oldest ones. This can be achieved by forming small groups of employees consisting of a physician, a laptop operator and two nurses. These groups should go door-to-door throughout the country in a systematic manner and cover the entire eligible population.
If the indigenous production of vaccine is not sufficient, then get the vaccines on topmost priority from anywhere in the world. Once the people are fully vaccinated, the chances of spreading of the disease is reduced considerably. If some one gets affected it will be in a mild form and not life-threatening. That would indirectly lessen the demand for beds, curative medicines, oxygen and so on, which means no more loss of lives. To finance all these, the Government has to stop non-essential expenses, development works, official celebrations etc.
