Nanjangud: A man who was travelling on his bike along with his wife to give his daughters ‘bagina’ for the Gowri Ganesha festival, came under the wheels of a speeding bus near Kalale Gate yesterday. He has been identified as 58-year-old farmer Prabhuswamy. His wife Indramma, who fell off the bike, sustained grievous injuries.
According to the Police and eye-witnesses, Prabhuswamy was on his Honda Shine bike (KA-09 H-0209) and was proceeding to Vidyanagar Layout in Nanjangud along with his wife Indramma to wish his daughters Baby and Bhramarambha on the occasion of Gowri Ganesha Festival and give the traditional ‘baagina.’
As Prabhuswamy neared Kalale Gate, he lost control of the bike and fell off the vehicle. While Prabhuswamy fell to his right, Indramma fell towards left. A speeding Kerala State bus (KL-15 A-1834) ran over Prabhuswamy and he was killed on the spot.
People who had gathered at the accident spot immediately shifted a grievously injured Indramma to a Government hospital. Traffic on the busy road was stranded for more than 30 minutes till the body and the bike were shifted.
According to the Police and the public, after the accident, the bus driver tried to speed away but was given a chase by a Police vehicle, who seized the bus. The driver has been detained and is being interrogated.
