Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. K.S. Ravindranath, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research has voiced his concern over the rising incidence of cardiac problems among youths.
Speaking at the inauguration of Cardio Yoga Summit, a National conference, at Jayadeva auditorium in city recently, he highlighted the alarming trend.
The Summit, jointly organised by the Department of Ayush, Government Ayurveda Research Centre, Mysuru and Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Mysuru, aimed to address the intersection of heart health and holistic practices like yoga.
Lifestyle changes to blame
“The changing lifestyle of modern youths is leading to an increased number of heart patients daily. Cardiac issues, once confined to urban areas, are now spreading to rural areas and affecting young people,” he said.
He emphasised Yoga’s importance in maintaining physical and mental well-being, noting its rise in popularity since the first International Yoga Day in 2014. “Yoga has become an inseparable part of life, inspiring millions worldwide. Maharshi Patanjali, Swami Vivekananda, and others have significantly popularised Yoga in India,” he said.
The event saw notable attendees, including Ayush Commissioner Dr. Srinivasulu, Vice-Chancellor of Adichunchanagiri University Dr. M.A. Shekar, Mysuru Jayadeva Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. K.S. Sadananda, Dr. Seethalakshmi, Dr. Angel Raj, Dr. Lakshminarayan Shenoy, Dr. Santosh, Dr. Veena Nanjappa, PRO Vani Mohan and City Hotel Owners’ Co-operative Society President Narayana V. Hegde, along with Ravindra Gore and others.
