Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) had organised a cleanliness awareness rally as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Park in Ashokapuram in city this morning. The rally was flagged off by Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji. About 500 students from various schools and their parents participated in the rally which went around the main thoroughfare of Ashokapuram.
Mysuru city bagged the ‘Cleanest City’ tag for two consecutive years (2015-16 and 2016-17), but dropped down to the 5th spot last year. In order to regain the top spot, the MCC is leaving no stone unturned. Yoga champ and Cleanliness Ambassador Kushi Hemachandra led the school masses in the cleanliness rally. Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji in his address, said, “Cleanliness is of utmost importance to lead a healthy life and the children should make it a point to keep their homes and surroundings clean.” He also urged that if Mysuru has to earn back the title of the cleanest city, every individual has a vital role to play towards it.
The initiative is aimed to educate people about waste disposal practices and make their city clean. Students were seen holding placards urging people to segregate dry waste and wet waste; use dustbins for dumping garbage, etc. MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, Deputy Mayor Rathna Lakshman, former Mayor Purushotham, former Deputy Mayor Mahadevappa and others participated in the awareness rally.
