Sri Jnanaprakash Swamiji inaugurates ‘Kalothsava’

Mysuru: “There is human value and element in folk art, literature,  culture and music,” said Urilingapeddi Mutt Seer Sri Jnanaprakash Swamiji.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Kalothsava’ organised by H.D. Kote’s Amma Vasundhare Samajika, Samskrithika Mattu Shaikshanika Trust in association with Kannada and Culture Department at Sri Nalwadi Krishna Raja Wadiyar auditorium in Maharani’s Women’s Arts College, here recently.

“Folk literature has the wisdom and simplicity to explain everything in simple language and this is so well defined when it says, ‘we can experience heaven when we utter truth and hell when tell lies.’ In our society there are people who cheat and fleece in the name of God. We should build a knowledgeable and healthy society,” he said.

Prof. P.V. Nanjaraja Urs (retd.) said that the present generation is forgetting Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar who built modern Karnataka. The Dalits and Backward Classes on such occasions at least are remembering him. It is a welcome sign that the College which has named the auditorium after Nalwadi is remembering him.

Janapadotsava

Various Janapada (folk) troupes exhibited their talents. The various forms of Janapada including Pooja Kunitha, Dollu Kunitha, Charma Vadya, group songs,Veeragaase, Maari Kunitha performed with a lot of energy and vigour thrilled the audience.

Maharani’s College Principal Prof. M. Channabasavegowda, DSS State Convenor Mavalli Shankar, Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director H. Chennappa, KSOU NSS Coordinator Dr. N.R. Chandregowda, Bangalore University Research Scholar Suresh Gautam, College’s old student and Kodagu District Kannada Janapada Parishat President Dr. Cauvery Prakash, Professor Dr. R. Lingaraju, Trust Secretary Amma Ramachandra, his mother Devamma and others were present on the occasion.

Mysore University Folklore Department Head Dr. M. Nanjaiah Honganuru was presented ‘Nelada Nakshatra’ award; Maharani’s Commerce College Professor Krishnamurthy and international level folk singer Gururaj were conferred ‘Nadachetana’ award while Maharani’s Arts College Professor Manonmani and Social Worker Cheluvambika were given ‘Amma Vasundhare Kala Seva’ awards.
