Mysore/Mysuru: Surabhi Ganakala Mandira, Mysuru, is celebrating its 35th Sri Purandara – Tyagaraja Aradhana on Feb. 18 and 19 at Sri Prasanna Parvati Kalyana Mantapa, V.V. Mohalla.
On Saturday (Feb.18), the programme begins with puja to Sri Purandaradasa and Sri Tyagaraja at 3 pm; From 3.15 pm onwards, students of ‘Surabhi’ will offer obeisance to the great Saints through singing a few rare compositions of Tyagaraja and female composers of Karnataka.
There will be a special musical feature ‘Sri Tyagaraja Vaggeya Bhagirathi’ at 6 pm by the disciples of Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar. This feature aims at an analysis of the style of Tyagaraja and 4 of his eminent disciples by taking the krithis of the same raaga.
On Sunday (Feb.19), at 8 am, the programme starts with the group singing (Goshti gaayana) of Sri Purandara Navaratna krithis followed by Goshti gaayana of Tyagaraja’s Pancharatna krithis.
At 10 am, Vid. G.S. Rajalakshmi, a renowned musician of Mysuru, will be conferred with the title ‘Gaana Surabhi’ which will be followed by a grand Karnatak Classical Music Concert by Malladi Brothers, accompanied by Vid.
