State Agri Award-2024 for city scientist

Mysuru: Renowned city scientist Dr. Vasanth Kumar Thimakapura has been honoured with the Prestigious Scientist Award at the recently held Karnataka State Agriculture Summit-2024 in Bengaluru.

Dr. Thimakapura was selected as one of 21 awardees from across Karnataka in recognition of his outstanding contributions to agricultural science, extension work and his innovative micro-finance model designed to support smallholder farmers with critical inputs.

The awards ceremony took place at the Taj West End Hotel, where Anbu Kumar, Principal Secretary of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka, presented the awards in the presence of dignitaries and CEOs of leading agri-related companies.

The Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA), New Delhi, acknowledged Dr. Thimakapura’s multifaceted achievements and his ongoing efforts to advance agricultural practices and support the farming community.

Dr. Thimakapura’s pioneering work includes significant research in tackling complex agricultural challenges, such as controlling virus diseases and addressing root rots and wilt diseases in crops.

His innovative product, POWER PLUS, has been widely accepted globally for its effectiveness in controlling virus diseases, attracting attention from virologists and scientists in the USA, UK and other countries.

Initial trials of POWER PLUS in these regions have shown promising results, further solidifying his reputation in the global agricultural research community.

Notably, Dr. Thimakapura has made strides in saving neem trees affected by root and wilt diseases, using a unique treatment method that has been instrumental in restoring trees both in the city and surrounding areas.

His remarkable achievements have been accomplished independently, without any external support from agencies, further highlighting his dedication and resourcefulness as a scientist.

In addition to the Agri Award- 2024, Dr. Thimakapura was recently conferred “Dr. Sri Balagangadharanatha Swamy Seva Ratna Prashasti” during the inaugural function of the Akhila Karnataka Vokkaligara Sangha at Kalamandira, Mysuru, in recognition of his selfless  service to society.
