State-level 25th National Children’s Science Congress begins tomorrow

CM to inaugurate 3-day silver jubilee celebrations;

1,200 children, 300 teachers to participate

Mysuru: Mysuru, which hosted the 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana from Nov. 24 to 26, will now be hosting the three-day State-level 25th National Children’s  Science Congress from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1 at the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) premises.

Addressing a press meet at his office here yesterday, Deputy Commissioner (DC) D. Randeep said that the 25th National Children’s Science Congress, with the theme ‘Science, Technology and Innovation For Sustainable Development,’ organised jointly by the District Administration, National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), New Delhi, Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat (KRVP), KSOU, University of Mysore, Department of Public Instructions, Department of Pre-University Education and other Departments, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddharamaiah tomorrow (Nov. 29) at Senate Bhavan, Manasagangothri at 10.30 am.

Minister for Science and Technology M.R. Seetharam will inaugurate the Technical Session and Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait will inaugurate the Science Expo. MLA vasu will preside, he said.

Since this is the 25th year of the National Children’s Science Congress, a special souvenir will be launched by District In-charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa to mark the Silver Jubilee celebrations, he said.

The DC said that a total of 1,200 young Scientists selected from four categories – Junior, Senior, Rural and Urban, accompanied by 300 teachers with 100 teachers as judges will participate and added that the children will present their projects at the Technical Seminars to be held at KSOU premises.

The best 30 teams will be selected for the National-level Conference to be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from Dec. 27 to 30. Accommodation, transport, food and basic facilities will be provided for the participants, said Randeep.

The DC said that young scientists selected during the 25 years will be presented with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 each and a certificate. A poster of the State-level 25th National Children’s Science Congress was released on the occasion.

On the first day (Nov. 29), a session titled ‘Simple Experiments in Physics’ will be held from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm for which M.R. Dasegowda, a State award recipient and Secretary, Chitradurga Science Centre will be the resource person.

From 5 pm to 6.30 pm, a special lecture on ‘DNA Finger print Technology’ by Dr. Vinod J. Lakkappan, Assistant Director, Forensic Laboratory, Bengaluru, will be held, followed by cultural programmes from 6.30 pm  to 8.30 pm.

Nov. 30: Demonstration on Rocket Launching will be held from 11 am to 1 pm for which Dr. B.R. Guruprasad, Public Relations Officer, ISRO, Bengaluru, will be the resource person.

A lecture on ‘Snakes’ will be held from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm by city’s well-known snake rescuer, wildlife conservationist and Corporator Balasubramanya (Snake Shyam).

Hulikar Nataraju, Vice-President of Karnataka State Vijnana Parishat, Bengaluru will expose the myth of miracles from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm which will be followed by cultural programmes from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.

Dec.1: Prof. C.S. Yoganand, Professor in Mathematics, SJCE, Mysuru, will speak about ‘Mathematics in Daily Life,’ from 11 am to 12.30 pm.

ISRO Chairman Prof. A.S. Kiran Kumar will deliver the valedictory of the National Children’s Science Congress at 2 pm.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait will honour students, who will be chosen as ‘Yuva Vijnani’ (Young Scientist). KRVP, Bengaluru, President and MLC S V Sankanur will preside over the programme.
