Mysore/Mysuru: District Minister S.T. Somashekar and MP Pratap Simha inaugurated the State-level Dasara Yogasana competition at P. Kalingarao Auditorium in Dasara Exhibition premises this morning.
The event was inaugurated in a unique manner while four Yoga performers stretched and bent their bodies performing various asanas simultaneously as the Minister and MP was lighting the traditional lamp.
Over 500 yoga enthusiasts from across the State had arrived to take part in the contest which was held in 11 categories for both boys and girls. The categories were: 8 to 10 years, 10 to 12 years, 12 to 14 years, 14 to 18 years, 18 to 21 years, 21 to 25 years, 25 to 35 years, 35 to 45 years, 45 to 55 years, 55 years & above and Specially Abled people (all age group). The contest is expected to see more footfalls by the end of the day.
Asanas such as Vrikshasana, Ustrasana, Dhanurasana, Urdwamukashwanasana, Janu Sirsasana, Sirsasana, Halasana, Veerabhadrasana, Chakrasana, Matsyasana, Bharadvajasana, Padangusthasana, Sarvangasana were compulsory for all the participants during the contest.
Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) Chairman Mirle Srinivas Gowda, Jungle Lodges and Resorts (JLR) former Chairman M. Appanna, Dasara Adventure Sports Sub-Committee Vice-President Shivaraj and others were present on the occasion.
