State-level essay contest on Mahatma Gandhi

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of 155th Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, the Department of Information and Public Relations will be organising a District-level and State-level essay contest on Mahatma Gandhi on topics such as Gandhiji’s Life, Freedom Movement, Simplicity, Ahimsa, Eradication of Untouchability etc., for students and youths.

The contest will be held under three categories — High School, Pre-University and Under-Graduate/Post-Graduate.

The topics for High School students are: Mahatma Gandhi and Democracy, Gandhiji’s Satyagraha, Imbibing Gandhiji’s Principles in our Life and Building of Nation through Gandhian Ideologies.

The contestants can write an essay on any of the four topics, not exceeding 900 words.

Topics for PU students are: Mahatma Gandhi and Democracy, Gandhiji’s Experiments on Eradication of Untouchability, The Way the World Understood Gandhiji  and Imbibing Gandhian Principles in our Life. The contestants can write an essay on any one of the four topics, not exceeding 1,500 words.

The topics for UG and PG students are: Significance of Satyagraha in today’s Democracy, The Secular Stance of Mahatma Gandhi in Building the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi’s Religious Tolerance and Concept of Independence and Equality, Concept of Truth in the Eyes of Mahatma Gandhi and Gandhiji’s Dreams of Swaraj and Economic Thoughts.

The participants can write an essay on any one of the five topics, not exceeding 2,000 words.

The Department will hold the contest before Sept.6 and the essays will be evaluated before Sept.10, following which the list of winners will be submitted to the Central Office of the Department at Bengaluru.

 The District-level essay contest prize winners will receive prizes during Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on Oct. 2, according to a press release.
