Mysuru: Marking International Women’s Day, Bharatha Kannada Parishat (BKP) had organised a State-level ‘Ugadi Kavi-Kavya Mela’ at Institution of Engineers on JLB Road here yesterday.
Inaugurating the programme, littérateur Dr. C.P. Krishnakumar opined that women today were strong and no more dependent on men as they have succeeded in various spheres of life. He suggested more women to take up literature and added that a literary explosion is needed to address the social evils of society. He emphasised that a writers should have creativity and said that superstitions should be kept out of society by acknowledging scientific facts.
About 50 poets participated in the event.
Former District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President N. Girigowda released a book titled ‘Sarala Vyakarana’ written by Muthuswamy.
Renowned Writer Mangala Satyan was felicitated on the occasion.
BKP State President Raghavendrakumar, Vice-President S. Nagarathna and others were present.
