Mysuru’s Dr. Varsha Puranik and Rea Achaiah are part of the winning team
Mysuru skaters Dr. Varsha Puranik and Rea Achaiah were part of the Karnataka women’s team which won silver in the Speed Roller Skating 3,000 mts Relay Tournament at the 36th National Games held at Ahmedabad in Gujarat recently. Karnataka men’s team too won bronze medal in the Tournament. While Tamil Nadu bagged gold medal, Dehli team settled for bronze.

Dr. Varsha Puranik (daughter of R. Srirama Krishna and Thara Srirama) and Rea Achaiah (daughter of K.N. Achaiah and Priya Achaiah) are trained by K. Srikantha Rao, Indian team coach and Ekalavya Award winner at the Rao’s Roller Skating Club in Mysuru.
The duo were also part of Senior and Junior India Relay Teams which won medals in the 18th Asian Roller Skating Championship held at Korea in 2018.
Speaking about the teams, Karnataka team coach Ekalavya Awardee Pratheek Raja said, “After 20 years, skating has found place in National Games and in the first season itself, both men and women’s teams have bagged medals which is a matter of pride.” Skating has also got place in the Olympics now and there is a good opportunity to win more medals for India, he added.
