Aditya B. Kalyani with 8 points from 9 rounds won the title in Karnataka State U-15 Open Chess Tournament conducted by Mandya District Chess Association which concluded in Mandya yesterday.
Deota Snehil and Pankaj Bhat were tied with 7.5 points each but based on the better tie-break score of 45 to the latter’s 44.5, Deota Snehil secured the second place and Pankaj Bhat secured the third place.
In the U-15 girls section, Bhagyashree R. Patil with 8 points from 9 rounds clinched the title. Sanjana Raghunath and Prachi Bharati were tied with 7.5 points each, but based on her better tie-break score of 44 to the latter’s 41, Sanjana secured the second place while Prachi secured the third place.
The top two place winners earned selection to represent Karnataka in the National Championships. Mysuru lad Chaitanya Ganesh secured 6 points from 9 rounds in the U-15 Open and secured the 21st place.
In the U-15 girls section, city’s Prasiddhi Bhat secured 6.5 points and finished 9th. M.V. Eshanvi secured 6 points and secured the 15thplace while S. Hemadri secured 5.5 points and finished 20th. Kalale’s K.G.R. Anangha secured 5.5 points and took the 26th place, while Mandya’s A.N. Shefali secured 4.5 points and finished 50th.
