‘Statements on Dam cracks detrimental to tourism’

Mysore/Mysuru: Former President of Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI) Sudhakar S. Shetty has appealed to leaders not to politicise the KRS Dam issue saying that statements on the Dam developing cracks would be detrimental to the interests of Mysuru and Mandya tourism.

Urging Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambarish to withdraw her statement over cracks in the Dam, Shetty said, “Such statements would turn the tourists away, leading to losses to the tourism industry and also economy of Mysuru and Mandya. As the Dam is important to farmers, it is crucial for the tourism industry too.” The role of KRS in the growth of Mysuru as a tourist hub is also pivotal as tourists who visit Palace and Chamundi Hill in Mysuru also visit KRS Dam, he pointed out.

“Statements on the Dam developing cracks appearing in media will deter tourists from visiting the iconic structure for the fear of an accident. Mysuru has the best engineering brains and the Mandya administration has been taking care of the Dam without giving scope for any rumours or any weak links,” he added.
