Mysore/Mysuru: Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology (BHIO, Bharath Cancer Hospital), in collaboration with Coloplast Academy, launched a dedicated Stoma Care Clinic at BHIO in city recently. The dedicated Stoma Care Clinic is the first of its kind in Mysuru to provide specialised care and support to patients with intestinal or urinary stomas.
Speaking after launching Stoma Clinic, Dr. M. Vijay Kumar, Consultant Surgical Oncologist at BHIO, said: “The clinic will offer holistic treatment, provide better care and create awareness for stoma patients to make them independent as possible. The stoma is an artificial opening created surgically for cancer patients or sometimes for non-cancer patients whose natural passages like the rectum or the bladder are removed permanently and a new opening is made on the abdominal wall to facilitate the passage of faeces and or urine. The clinic is well-equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment and will provide pre-operative and post-operative counselling including lifestyle modifications for patients to prevent psychological trauma.
The specialised clinic will be a boon to stoma patients who will now have access to a dedicated facility to seek specialised stoma related treatment.”
He also mentioned that the clinic aims to provide protective care and early identification of complications besides offering advice regarding lifestyle modification. “Living with a permanent stoma can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life, causing physical discomfort and emotional distress. Through this Stoma Clinic, we aim to help patients regain confidence, lead fulfilling lives and enjoy improved overall well-being,” Dr. Vijay Kumar added.
COO of BHIO Gowtham Dhamerla, Assistant Surgeon Dr. Naveen, Care Specialist V.M. Jagadeesh, Regional Manager Ravi Chandra, Territory Managers Niloy Nandi and Pradeep Kumar were present.
