Now that the term of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Corporators has ended, it does not mean that cleaning and maintenance work should come to a standstill.
Ramakrishnanagar I Block is being filled with garbage and waste along the roadsides, just half a kilometre from the Chief Minister’s residence. Notably, most of the waste dumped along the roads here is construction debris.
What message does this send about our civic body’s commitment to Mysuru? On what moral grounds will the MCC contest for the Clean City award? If these scenes reach the Central Team of Swachh Survekshan, how will MCC present itself?
Maintaining the city’s cleanliness should not be driven solely by awards; it should be a continuous effort. The reality is that garbage is being dumped daily on the roadside in this locality, which also has the residence of an MLC and a school nearby.
Will the officials responsible ensure that the garbage is regularly cleared, providing school-going children and citizens with clean, fresh air?
P.S.: The MCC Commissioner recently issued a press note stating that irresponsible citizens who dump garbage on roadsides and public places will be penalised. But when can we expect this stringent action to be enforced?
