Mysuru: Sri Yathiraja Narayana Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamiji, the 41st pontiff of Sri Ramanuja Mahasamsthanam, Melukote, will release the CD of Stotra Ratna — 65 precious verses of Sri Yamunacharya (916 AD to 1041 AD) in Sanskrit, tuned and sung by late Savithri Keshava Iyengar — at a programme to be held at Sarada Vilas Centenary Hall, Krishnamurthypuram, in city on June 25 at 6 pm.
Dr. P. Venkat Rangan, Vice-Chancellor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, will inaugurate the programme. Renowned violinist Padma Shri A. Kanyakumari and advocate O. Sham Bhat will receive the first copies of the CD.
CD will be sold at the end of the programme and the proceeds offered to charity.
Profile: Savithri Keshava Iyengar (1930-2007) was born in Shivamogga to advocate T.G. Narayana Iyengar and Rangamma on June 25. She spent her childhood and early youth there and took part in India’s Freedom Struggle.
After her marriage to advocate B.C. Keshava Iyengar (1919-1995), she spent the next six decades of her life in Mysuru. She was a musician and spent her life dedicated to Adyatmika Sadhan and Nadopasana.
An ardent devotee of Andal and the Vishishtadwaita Parampara, she has tuned and sung some of the greatest poetic works like Thiruppavai, Godastuti, Raghuveera Gadyam and Stotra Ratna to mention a few, in various Ragas of Karnatak Classical style.
Flute concert On June 26
A flute concert by Vid. Prapancham Balachandran and troupe has been organised at the same venue on June 26 from 6 pm to 8.30 pm. Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore (UoM), will inaugurate the event.
