Strengthen Police force to control crime

Police personnel and Commando forces, led by City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, checking compartments inside two-wheelers on suspicions of ferrying narcotics on Rajendranagar Main Road last night.

Sir,

Mysuru, with its unique urban-rural ambience, has for long been celebrated as a city of culture and arts — a compact, quiet paradise for senior citizens.

It is now shocking to learn that it has turned into a haven for drug trafficking, supplying even to Maharashtra and Gujarat (Drugs worth Rs. 390 crore seized during raid in city, SOM dated July 29).

Some time ago, SOM reported the disturbing sight of beer and liquor bottles strewn along the steps leading to Chamundi Hill after drinking sessions. Our city is increasingly witnessing unhealthy activities and crimes, a far cry from its once-pristine image.

The drug menace may only be one among other clandestine crimes quietly flourishing here.

It is high time our Police force is strengthened and specialised standing units are formed to curb crime, restoring Mysuru not just as a clean city, but also as a truly safe city.
