Maintaining that continuous struggle is the only way for retaining reservation in job promotion for SC/ST communities, MLC V.S. Ugrappa has warned that SC/ST communities may lose out on reservation if they fail to launch a movement.
He was speaking at the valedictory of a seminar on ‘Reservation in job promotion’ in the wake of Supreme Court striking down the right to reservation in job promotions, at Humanities Block in Manasagangothri here recently.
Asserting that reservation at all levels is necessary until equality prevails in the society, Ugrappa said that the State Government will file a petition seeking review of the SC order.
The seminar passed a nine-point resolution which included filing of a petition seeking review of SC order on job promotion, filling up of backlog posts and job reservation in private sector, among others.
Senior advocate C. Jagadish, Prof. Yashoda, Dr. Vidya Chandavara and Prof. D. Anand delivered lectures.
M.S. Khaleem, Ningaraj Malladi, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru, Prof. K.S. Bhagawan, C.P. Gangadhar and others were present.
