Hunsur: A student, who went for a swim was reportedly drowned in Lakshmanatheertha River near Marador village in the taluk yesterday afternoon.
The deceased is identified as Nandan Rao, son of Suresh, who runs a fast food business near Hunsur Bus Stand. Nandan was pursuing 2nd PUC at the Govt. PU College for Boys in Hunsur.
A Kabbadi player, Nandan, who was to take part in the Taluk-level Kabbadi Tourney at a College in Marador village from today, had come to the village along with five of his friends to inspect the ground. While his friends were having their lunch on the banks of the river near the College, Nandan reportedly ventured into the river for a swim and was caught in the whirlpool. Though his friends and others at the bank of the river tried to save him, their attempts did not yield positive results and Nandan got drowned.
Bilikere Police, who rushed to the spot, managed to fish out the body and registered a case. The body was shifted to the General Hospital, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members.
