Students apprised on ‘Innovation and current trends in Automotive Industry’

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Metagalli, Mysuru, had organised a webinar for students on ‘Innovation and current trends in automotive industry’ on Dec. 21.

Vinay Goverdhan, Software Engineer, GKN Driveline International GmbH, Lohmar, Germany, was the resource person for this webinar. This webinar was mainly organised to the students to give insights to the recent trends in automotive industry and also stages of the innovation. Current ecological, social and technological trends are encouraging innovative manufacturers to offer better comforts to the consumers. The growth of zero emission vehicle technology has been driven by environmental factors. The popularity of cleaner and more environment-friendly Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) is increasing. Innovative manufacturers take considerable interest in the potential of self-driving technology since it opens new opportunities for business growth.

Vinay started his presentation by giving an overview about automotive industry. He briefed on major trends in automotive industries like autonomous vehicles, Artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, block chain, Human Machine Interface, Data analytics, shared mobility and connectivity. Further he briefed on need of electrification in automobiles, the pros and cons in electrification.

The speaker enriched the students about the knowledge on electric vehicles through related videos. He also highlighted on AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) to create and establish an open and standardised software architecture for automotive electronic control units. He also briefed on Software development standards that are involved in industry with Automotive SPICE (IS/IEC 15504). 

He emphasised about the stages of innovation industry, future trends and the career opportunity in the automotive industry. He motivated the students to think and come up with ideas on key challenging areas in EVs like battery, to increase the weight of the car and the ways of charging the vehicles. 

Vinay also encouraged the students to carry out the projects in ECU specially built for automobiles and also in AUTOSAR as that helps the students to easily get the job in automotive industry.
