Mysore/Mysuru: Retired Professor of Department of Studies in Political Science, University of Mysore, Prof. H.M. Rajashekar advised students to study books instead of relying more on mobile phones and google.
He was speaking at a series of lectures organised at the Department of Studies in Political Science titled ‘Indian Constitution and Indian Political System’ to commemorate 74th Constitution Day on Nov. 27.
“Students will gain more knowledge if they depend on teachers and books. But of late, students are staying away from books and relying on mobile apps and google for obtaining information. Google and Apps doesn’t provide complete information as they are not updated regularly. Hence, the knowledge gained through them is incomplete,” said Prof.Rajashekar and rued that students have given up the habit of reading books and are not visiting libraries, which has resulted in the closure of many book shops.
Expressing his concern over passing of Bills in the Parliament without proper discussions, Prof.Rajashekar said this is a dangerous trend and felt that detailed discussions must be held about the pros and cons of a Bill before they are passed as an Act and implemented. “Every Government which has a people’s mandate must complete its full five-year term in office. It is only then the development works can be carried out effectively failing which the development of States and the nation will suffer. All party leaders have misused the provision to impose President’s Rule,” he said.
Head of the Department of Studies in Political Science Prof. Krishna R. Hombal, Director of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre Prof. J. Somashekar and Prof. Ramachandrappa were present.
