Mysuru: The Audit Committee of Karnataka Legislature visited Mysore University here yesterday and scrutinised the accounts.
Committee Chairman and MLA S.R. Mahesh asked University Registrar D. Bharati to submit the documents related to balance and expenditure before December.
Mahesh said that the Committee had visited the Varsity for the same purpose thrice and had asked for submission of account details but to no avail.
Losing his cool, Mahesh warned of submitting a report in this regard to the Legislative Assembly Speaker and the Government for further action.
Replying to that, Bharati promised to complete the task of verifying accounts of the year 2014-15 by this month end and added that the job for the year 2015-16 was underway.
Mahesh alleged that a few posts in the Varsity were created though not essential draining Government funds and fees paid by the students.
Referring to irregularities in the appointment of teaching faculty to the Department of Architecture, Mahesh took a strong objection for holding up salaries for faculty and staff of the said Department.
He further alleged that the appointment of Director for the Department of Architecture was improper which had flouted the cadre and recruitment rules of the Government and that of University Grants Commission (UGC).
Mahesh asked the Varsity authorities to prepare the audit report scrupulously retaining discipline and transparency in expenditure.
Expressing unhappiness over the continuous absence of acting Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dayananda Mane, Mahesh sought the reason behind that.
Coming out in Mane’s defence, Bharati said that the former was convalescing after discharge from the hospital. Mahesh categorically said that the Committee would plan the next meeting when the acting VC was fit and fine.
Committee Members D.G. Shanthana Gowda, M. Krishna Reddy and Additional Secretary K.S. Ganesh accompanied Mahesh.
