Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep has asked officers concerned to submit reports regarding steps taken for processing Solid Waste in Mysuru and other places of the district.
He was addressing a meeting of officers of various Departments on solid waste management, domestic sewage water treatment and on other environment related topics at his office here on Saturday.
After obtaining information on treatment of solid waste generated from MUDA and private layouts, Randeep said that though construction of a septic tank is mandatory at layouts spanning 10 to 13 acres as per the government order, it is learnt that the rule is flouted in a few layouts. He added that solid waste management was not possible in those layouts resulting in pollution.
Continuing, Randeep observed that officers of MUDA and Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Broad had indiscriminately permitted houses and apartments to come up without proper inspection of site. He contended that the residents of many private layouts were facing a lot of problems regarding the drainage and solid waste management system. He instructed officials concerned to submit a comprehensive report on such layouts without septic tanks before the next meeting.
The DC further said that complaints were pouring in from residents regarding poor maintenance of Under Ground Drainage (UGD) system. He asked officials of MCC and MUDA to take effective steps to solve the problems.
MCC Superintending Engineer Suresh Babu, MUDA Executive Engineer R.K. Raju, Superintending Engineer Shivakumar, MCC Health Officer Dr. Ramachandra, officers of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and others attended the meeting.
