Bengaluru: Suchetana Swaroop (in pic) was appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) by the State Government on Monday. The post had remained vacant since November 2016. Swaroop, who is already working as the Information Commissioner, has been elevated to the new post. He hails from K.R. Nagar in Mysuru. A decision to elevate Swaroop was taken during a meeting chaired by CM Siddharamaiah.
The CIC, whose tenure is five years, receives salary on par with High Court Judges.
The post was previously held by IAS Officer D.N. Narasimha Raju, who had resigned after a six-month stint.
