Bengaluru: Sugar and Tourism Minister C.T. Ravi has said that all sugarcane dues of farmers in sugar factories will be cleared in ten days.
Speaking to presspersons after holding a meeting with farmer associations at a private guest house here on Thursday, C.T. Ravi said that farmers had to be paid Rs.11,948 crores in 2018-19 as per FRP. But only Rs. 84 crore is pending as on Thursday, which will be cleared in ten days.
Maintaining that the State Government is paying sugar factories the FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) rate as per the directions of the Centre, he said that some sugar factories have promised a higher price sans any agreement in writing, which is not correct.
Stating that many farmers have complained about oral assurance of sugar factories, the Minister asked the farmers to enter into written agreement which can be legally binding.
Announcing that the Government is seriously working on stable sugar prices, he said that the Government is planning to make installation of sugar quality testing machines mandatory in sugar factories.
