Mysore/Mysuru: Accusing the Union Government of ignoring the plight of Sugarcane growers, the Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association has urged the Government to announce a minimum FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) of Rs.3,200 per tonne for sugarcane at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan here this morning, Association President Kurubur Shantakumar said that the Union Government has failed to announce the FRP for sugarcane for the past two years, which has become a cause of great worry for the growers.
Claiming that the Government was keeping silent due to the pressure exerted by Sugarcane Mill owners, Shantakumar said that the Parliamentarians too had failed to raise their voice in favour of the farming community.
Demanding the Government to announce a minimum FRP of Rs.3,200 per tonne this year, he opined that Seers or various mutts should take to the streets for the cause of farmers, who have been demanding remunerative prices for their produce for years together.
Association office-bearers Kiragasur Shankar,H.S. Ramegowda and Nagaraj were present at the press meet.
