Mysore/Mysuru: Demanding the implementation of their various demands including the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) fixation and dropping of the proposed Bill for the privatisation of power sector, State Sugarcane Growers Association has organised a Vidhana Soudha Chalo on Sept. 26.
This was announced by Association President Kurubur Shantakumar at a press conference held at Kuvempu Park near Gun House here recently.
“The present rate of Rs. 3,050 per ton for the present year is not fair and opposing this, protests were held near the office of Deputy Commissioner (DC) and also at Taluk Office. An agitation by blocking roads was also done in this connection on Aug. 12 across the State to draw government’s attention. But despite all this, the State Government has not taken any action and is neglecting farmers,” he alleged.
“The Union Government has introduced a Bill in Parliament to privatise the Power sector. If this Bill is passed and implemented, meters will be fixed to the agricultural pump sets resulting in difficulties for farmers which may force them not to resort to agriculture. This act of the Union Government has already been opposed by the State Governments of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala and Bihar. Similarly, our State Government should also oppose the Bill,” demanded Kuruburu Shantakumar.
Association leaders P. Somashekar, Hallikerehundi Bhagyaraj, Baradanapua Nagaraj, Siddesh, Madappa and others were present at the press conference.
