Mandya: With actor and Mandya Congress MLA M.H. Ambarish making a rare appearance in the constituency, the KPCC is said to be looking for alternative candidates.
Ambarish who is also facing health issues, is said to be not keen to contest the polls this time and as such, the KPCC is looking at fielding the actor’s wife Sumalatha Ambarish, also an actress, in Mandya constituency.
Ambarish who has stayed away from all Congress meetings in recent times, apparently due to his poor health, is said to have given nod for the contest of his wife.
Ambarish reportedly owing to his ill health, had not even filed an application to the Congress High Command seeking the party ticket to contest the assembly polls.
With Ambarish not too keen to contest, District in-charge Minister M. Krishnappa, Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar and other top Congress leaders of the district are said to have suggested the Chief Minister to leave the party’s ticket to the discretion of Ambarish.
Meanwhile, sources close to Ambarish said district Congress has recommended the names of Sumalatha Ambarish, Ganiga Ravi Kumar and a few others for Mandya assembly seat.
