Summer vacation cut; schools to start from May 16

Bengaluru: With at least 40 percent loss of physical classes, besides loss of learning for students due to pandemic over the past two academic years, the Department of Education has come up with a new academic calendar for the academic year 2022-23. The year will begin early and end late, with 26 extra days to compensate for learning loss.

The first term of the academic year will begin from May 16 and end on Oct. 2, 2022. The second will begin from Oct. 17, 2022 and end on Apr. 10, 2023. Summer holidays will be cut to 48 days and Dasara holidays to 14 days. Wherever Christmas holidays need to be declared, Dasara holidays will be cut even more.

Among 330 days, there will be 60 days of holidays, including Dasara, summer and Government holidays. Co-curricular activities, exams, parent-teacher meetings, excursions and functions will take up 28 days, so that the classes will be conducted on the remaining 228 days. The number of classes in a day will also be increased. The school timing from this academic year will be from 10 am to 4.20 pm.
